How did last season end? The Capers lost to Scarborough, 2-1, in the Western Maine semifinals.

Key newcomers: Will Russell, Derek Laflin, Marcus Goldbas, Brad Doliner
Key concern: Getting consistent goalkeeping from the two sophomore goalies
Coach’s outlook: “The younger players must step into important roles and the goalkeeping must be consistent for our team to succeed. We feel we can compete with anyone in the state if we stay healthy and our defense is solid.”
Girls Soccer
Coach: Mark Tinkham (2nd year)
Fall 2004 record: 8-5-4
How did last season end? The Capers lost to Greely, 1-0, in Western Maine semifinals.
Key veterans: Dana Riker, Alice Evans, Marla Houghton, Jill Smith, Grace Needleman, Natasha Barritt
Key newcomers: Marissa Barritt, Elsa Mullin, Carly Riker
Key concern: The Capers lost much of their defense to graduation as well as a solid striker, so there will be many new faces who will be tested early on.
Coach’s outlook: “Although it’s a rebuilding year, the team will be competitve and should compete in Western Maine.”
Football
Coach: Aaron Filieo (2nd year)
Fall 2004 record: 3-6
How did last season end? The Capers beat Dirigo-Buckfield, 25-0.
Key veterans: Kyle Toot, Mike Kertes, Nate Gray, Ben Rautenberg
Key newcomers: Sami Chbani, Matt Homa, Vinnie Moulton, Kevin Martin
Key concern: “The offensive Line was a weakness for us last year but it is bigger and stronger this season.”
Coach’s outlook: “We look to compete in every game. If we stay injury free, we will make a strong playoff run.”
Boys Cross Country
Coach: David Weatherbie (4th year)
Fall 2004 record: 10-3
How did last season end? Cape Elizabeth was the runner up at the Class B state meet
Key veterans: Graham Egan (Jr), Stanis Moody-Roberts (Jr), Curtis Dulac (So), Brendan Flynn (Jr), Doug Ginn (Sr), Ben Pomeroy (Sr), Austin Brown (Jr)
Key newcomers: Colman Hatton (Sr), Matt Rand (Fr)
Key concern: Falmouth, York, Greely & Ellsworth. “As with last year, Class B will be the most competitive and toughest State Championship to win.”
Coach’s outlook: “We return our full top seven from last year along with adding Colman Hatton (State Track Champion in 800m), who switched from soccer to cross county. As a result, we expect to compete for the Class B State Chamionship and represent Maine as one of six teams in the New England Championships.”
Girls cross country
Coach: Mary Ann Doss (ninth year)
Fall 2004 record: 16-1
How did last season end? The Capers finished tied for second place at the Class B state championship meet.
Key veterans: Clare Egan, Melissa Slack, Amanda Slack, Erin Gross, Mary-Kate Heubener, Jessica Danielson
Key newcomers: Marisa Turesky, Caitlin Pomeroy, Erin Hatton
Key concern: Developing depth.
Coach’s outlook: “We should be very competitive this year not only at the Regional Championship, but also at the State Championship as well. This is one of the best teams in Cape cross country.”
Golf
Coach: Greg Sandell (1st year)
How did last season end: Second in the state tournament
Key veterans: Ross Neagle, Alex Moran, Joe Geoghegan, John Hayes, Matt Bernstein
Key newcomers: Chris Milller, Alex McFarlane, Sean Eubanks
Key concern: None.
Coach’s outlook: “We have outstanding depth with anyone in top six able to shoot par or better. As a result, we’re hoping to capture the state championship.”
Field Hockey
Coach: Lori Broadhurst (3rd year)
Fall 2004 record: 2-12-2
How did last season end? The Capers lost to York, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the state tournament.
Key veterans: Samantha Welch, senior midfielder; Hannah Landis, senior forward.
Key newcomers: Maureen Kertes, junior midfield/forward; Meghan Mowles, junior goalie.
Key concern: “Our problem in the past has been transitioning and getting the ball in the goal!!”
Coach’s outlook: “We’ve been working hard during the preseason on transitioning and getting more shots on goal. I believe we will progress throughout the season to be a strong contender.”
