Having read and watched many articles on the consolidation of the dispatch services in Gorham with the Cumberland County dispatch system I feel that there is another side that has not been fully discussed. Since when is government employment guaranteed for life? Yes, I do feel sorry when someone becomes unemployed as I have been there, but enough is enough. The cries and screams of anguish coming from public employees are nothing different than the Property Tax Cap proposal. I call it the Chicken Little approach, the sky will fall, your house will burn, your spouse will die of a heart attack and the police and fire personnel will never find your house in the event of an emergency.

I’ll put my answer to this as blunt as possible: All of that is bovine scatology. Those problems already exist. I listen to the scanner and all communities have difficultly in locating some places in their towns. The excuse that the dispatchers must thoroughly be familiar with their towns lacks an explanation as to why it does not apply to fire and police personnel of which I hope they know more than the person dispatching them.

We have a serious problem in the state of Maine with our low population, ever-increasing local government workers and high taxes, now the highest tax burden in the United States. Having served 20 years in the military with a large portion being stationed overseas, I have seen that Maine and much of the United States has much to learn about consolidating services. Our system in Maine of State Police, county sheriffs and local police is one of most antiquated and asinine systems in the entire World.

And we pay for it. Soon the sheeple (that’s people who act like sheep) will soon be informed and alerted that it is time for a change.

The Second Great American Tea Party is coming soon.
