The Windham Police Department may be getting some money back for an independent investigation that led to a drug bust last fall.
On September 26, 2004, Sgt. Ron Ramsdell and Officer Ray Williams along with three agents of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force arrested Ryan Gagnon of Windham for drug trafficking in a school zone. Upon searching his residence on Gray Road, investigators discovered 17.3 ounces of marijuana, a small amount of cocaine, various instruments – used to weigh and distribute drugs – and $937 in cash.
On June 16, 2005, Gagnon, sentenced to 90 days in Cumberland County Jail, agreed to forfeit the $937 seized to the state of Maine. The state of Maine has in turn given that money over to the town of Windham and, on Tuesday, Aug. 9, the Windham Town Council unanimously voted to accept a transfer of the money.
