Windham residents are encouraged to take advantage of a day to drop off their hazardous waste for free at the Public Works Facility on Windham Center Road on August 13 from 9 a.m. to when budgetary limitations are met.

The items you may bring include:

From the Workbench: oil base paint, stains and varnishes, wood preservatives, paint strippers and thinners, aerosol cans and adhesives.

From the Garage: fuels/gasoline/kerosene, engine degreasers, brake fluid and antifreeze, car was and polishes, driveway sealer, roofing tar and pool chemicals.

From the Yard: insecticides, fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, wood killers, flea control products and chemical fertilizers.

From the House: rubber cement, fiber resins, photo chemicals, chemistry sets, furniture polish floor and metal polish spot removers and solvents.

Items you may not bring include:

motor oil, tires, batteries, fluorescent tubes, commercial waste, industrial waste, smoke detectors, biological wastes, computer monitors, computers, prescription medicines, syringes, compressed gas cylinders, latex paint and asbestos.

When transporting your waste to the facility, follow these rule:

Never mix chemicals together; bring materials in original containers; pack in sturdy boxes with paper around; leaking containers must be contained prior to transporting; leave pets at home and never smoke eat or drink while handing or transporting hazardous materials.
