Several non-profits in the southern Maine area received a total of $108,000 from the Warren Cole Restitution Trust earlier this week, according to Cumberland County District Attorney Stephanie Anderson.
Riding to the Top, a therapeutic horse riding center based on Land of Nod Road in Windham, received $10,000, which will go toward a renovation and expansion project.
In June 1992, Warren Cole was convicted upon his plea of guilty to one count of gross sexual misconduct and sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison. Cole was also ordered to establish a private irrevocable Trust in the amount of $100,000 to provide counseling to the numerous other victims he admitted abusing for which the statute of limitation had run out. Attorney C. Alan Beagle was named Trustee and has remained the sole administrator of the Trust over the years.
