Four young men from the Coastal Maine Aquatics swim team broke three Maine state records – including one set in 1991 – at the Swim Your Own Age meet in Westbrook recently.
Marcus Cloutier (10), Jerry Gravel (9), Trebor Lawton (10), and Jack Lindell (9) together swam in record speed to break 3 relay records.
Saturday, the team broke the record in the 400 freestyle relay. The previous record of 4:47.08, set in 2003 by the Hurricane Swim Club in Bangor, was shattered by nearly 20 seconds as the CMA boys finished in 4:27.70.
Not stopping there, Marcus (Cape Elizabeth), Jerry (Scarborough), Trebor (Gorham) and Jack (Cape Elizabeth) controlled the 200 medley relay from start to finish as they smashed the previous record of 2:26.76, set back in 1991 by the Seals swim team. Powering in at a 2:16.46, Cloutier (backstroke), Lindell (breaststroke), Gravel (fly), and Lawton (free), dropped the 14-year-old record by 10.20 seconds.
Finally, on Sunday, the boys finished up the weekend with the 200 freestyle relay. Gravel, Lindell, and Cloutier all split 30s with Lawton anchoring the finish just below with a 29.80. The final time of 200.57 was 5.50 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 2003, also by the Hurricane Swim Club.
