Much of what makes a city vibrant and attractive is the cleanliness of its streets, sidewalks, parking lots and recreational areas. Westbrook’s Public Services Department’s recent purchase of a new Tenant mini sweeper is going a long way toward achieving those cleanliness objectives. The sweeper is a miniature version of the two larger street sweeping units that Westbrook uses to clean its main thoroughfares, residential streets and parking lots. The Tenant sweeping unit was purchased with an eye toward focusing on those areas that are unable to be accessed by the larger sweepers. Narrow sidewalks, tight corners in parking areas and the city’s new parking garage are all examples of areas that are perfectly suited to the new sweeper’s capabilities.
Maintaining the cleanliness of the downtown area requires a focused effort that includes mechanical sweeping, hand lawn mowing and trimming, trash pick up and removal and litter control. Graffiti removal and vandalism related damage repair are also key elements of a downtown program that routinely occupies the time of one or two Public Services employees.
Westbrook citizens and businesses are encouraged to call the Public Services Department at 854-0660 with questions or concerns regarding the cleanliness and appearance of city wide streets and facilities.
