A Sebago Lake woman suffered a leg injury in a single car accident on Main Street in front of the Westbrook Crossing shopping area on Thursday.

Police said Michelle Nason, 29, was injured after the car she was riding in veered off the road and struck a utility pole head on. While Nason was the registered owner of the vehicle, police said Michael Towne, 29, of North Street in Portland was driving the car at the time of the crash. Towne was not seriously injured in the accident, and an 8-year-old boy riding in the vehicle’s back seat also escaped serious injury, police said.

The accident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. on Thursday. The police report said a witness was following the vehicle for about 100 yards and that person reported seeing Towne’s car weaving from lane to lane before crashing into the pole without braking. After the accident, Towne told officers at the scene that he was having trouble with the vehicle’s brakes, which caused him to hit the pole.

The accident remains under investigation by the Westbrook police.
