Local people watching the QVC shopping channel Friday would have seen a familiar sight, as the channel broadcast live from Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth, as part of its Decade of Discoveries Tour.

The tour is visiting 10 of the most scenic spots in the country and introducing 10 new products and entrepreneurs at each site.

During their stop in Cape Elizabeth viewers in the national audience and the hundred or so QVC fans who gathered on lawn chairs to watch the live broadcast were treated to host David Venable wearing a red lobster hat and selling products such as a “Mewvie” Motion Picture for Cats and the “Squid Face” Pillow.

QVC’s Corporate Affairs Manager Andrew Lee, a 1994 Scarborough High School graduate, said it was great to back in Maine. After the filming was over Friday he hoped to spend some time at his family’s camp in central Maine before heading to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis for the next stop on the QVC tour.

QVC fans traveled from near and far to watch the live broadcast. Denise Grant traveled from Berlin, N.H., to watch the show.

“I’m an avid QVC shopper,” Grant said. “I made my husband take the day off from work.”

Elizabeth Davis of Cape Elizabeth took her daughter and granddaughter, visiting from Massachusetts, to see the show.

“We’re three generations of QVC shoppers,” Davis said.

Davis’s daughter, Michelle Yost, and granddaughter Elizabeth spend the summers in Cape Elizabeth with Davis, but it wasn’t the scenic view or warm weather that brought them to Fort Williams Park that day.

“We came because QVC is here,” said Elizabeth Yost.

Another product featured on the broadcast were CDs from the contemporary classical music group Nova Era, who performed in front of Portland Head Light dressed in extravagant period clothing and old-fashioned powdered wigs. Their CDs sold out in a matter of minutes.
