Now that Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has announced she is retiring, a full blown political campaign is underway. I believe the debate over the next Supreme Court justice should be about the nominee’s qualifications. Many times we have seen those that disagree with this premise resort to personal attacks. Members of the Senate, especially our own Maine Senators Snowe and Collins, should ignore the liberal personal attacks and support any of President Bush’s nominees who are highly qualified, experienced and will be faithful to the U.S. Constitution without implementing policy from the bench. We need a justice who won’t be an activist promoting issues of special agendas.
