Naples Public Library will present “Kids ‘n Kameras,” its annual, two-part Program of educational workshops for children, this summer. Designed to introduce photography and its techniques to young people, Kids ‘n Cameras will be held on consecutive Thursdays, July 21 and July 28, beginning at 9:30 in the Library’s Gathering Room.
Kids ‘n Kameras is offered to children in the 4th through 8th grades to encourage interest, participation, and exploration of this popular art form and hobby. This year’s program will be expanded to teach the kids the art of digital photography. The end result of this year’s project will be a digital storybook. We invite members of the local community and visitors to nominate a special person whose life you would like to see portrayed. For the fourth year, photographer Lisa Magiera will lead the Program. Lisa’s photography degree from Union College, work in photographic studios in New York and Massachusetts, and her continuing activities instructing children will make for an excellent, lively, and hands-on introduction for youngsters into this fascinating field. As Lisa expresses it, the Library’s goal is “simply to get kids excited about photography.”
Kids ‘n Kameras is made possible through the Herb and Lilla Bachrach Memorial Fund. Longtime residents of Naples, Herb was a nationally recognized photographer, Lil a much-loved volunteer at Naples Library. Their children, Charles and Judith, established the Memorial Fund in memory of their parents, expressing their wish to “further the knowledge and skills of children with an interest in photography, as a hobby or as a career.”
Digital cameras and other multi-media devices will be made available; the workshops, as are all of the Library’s programs, are free-of-charge. Enrollment is limited, and registration is required.
