Four area students have recently earned promotions at Northern Chi Martial Arts in Scarborough. Stephanie Cange and Molly LeComte of Scarborough achieved Yellow Belt status. Matthew Morneau of Biddeford reached the rank of Orange Belt. Rebecca Zub of Scarborough reached the rank of Purple Belt. All of these students train under a team of Black Belt Instructors lead by Kate Archambault, Northern Chi’s Chief Instructor.
“Advancement in the ranks is an important part of studying the martial arts and at Northern Chi the emphasis is on an individual’s growth and development, ” says Jim DiVirgilio, Northern Chi studio director. Northern Chi Martial Arts, located at 136 U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough, offers instruction in kempo karate, t’ai chi and self- defense. Founded in 1994, Northern Chi strives “to provide an environment where everyone can enjoy the benefits of martial arts,” according to DiVirgilio.
