2005 Teen Writing Contest
Sponsored by the Friends of the Scarborough Library and the Current
Contest Rules
Short stories or essays must be based on one of the major themes in Scarborough’s One Book One Community selection, Ernie’s Ark by Monica Wood. Ernie’s Ark is a collection of nine interrelated short stories based in the small mill town of Abbot Falls, Maine. Copies of Ernie’s Ark are available for loan at the Scarborough Public Library.
Entrants must reside in Scarborough and be entering grades 9 though 12 (or equivalent) in the fall 2005 term.
All short stories or essays must be original works, not published elsewhere.
Each entrant is limited to one submission. Submissions should be no longer than 1000 words in length and must be typed and double spaced on single sided, 81/2 x 11 white paper. Illustrations will not be considered.
Title of entry must be on first page of the work. Do not include your name on the work as the entries will be judged anonymously. Attach a completed entry form to you submission. Include the title of your submission on this form.

The decision of the judges is final. Winners will be selected to have lunch with Monica Wood, author of Ernie’s Ark and Jeff Inglis, editor of the Current, during the One Book One Community event on Saturday, September 17, 2005. Each winner will receive a certificate and a copy of Monica Wood’s new book, Any Bitter Thing.
Winners will be notified by phone and winning entries will be published in the Current on September 8. Winning entries will be posted on the Scarborough Public Library’s website.
