Leona Glidden points to a box overflowing with donated gift certificates as evidence that the Together Days auction will be another great success this year.

Glidden, who is organizing the auction for the second year in a row, said 149 businesses have donated items to the auction this year, a significant increase over the 120 donations received for last year’s auction. “Everyone’s been great with their donations this year,” she said.

The auction items are spread all over Glidden’s Spring Street home, everything from a NASCAR racing lawn chair to several toy trucks and even two autographed pictures of Boston Red Sox star pitcher Tim Wakefield. Glidden said there are a wealth of gift certificates as well, running the gamut from certificates for Amato’s Restaurant to bowling at Yankee Lanes.

“We’ve got some great stuff this year,” Glidden said.

Glidden started working on gathering donations for the auction at the beginning of April. She said most businesses that she approached were very good at providing something to the auction, and very few turned her down.

With Together Days just around the corner, Glidden said she would still be working on getting more donations for the auction. “I’ve still got another week or two, so I may get some more things,” she said.

The auction begins on Saturday, June 4, at noon in Riverbank Park. Glidden said she expected the auction to last about three hours. School Superintendent Stan Sawyer and Al Juniewicz will once again serve as auctioneers.

“They were so good last year,” Glidden said.

Last year, the auction raised about $3,300. Glidden said she hoped to raise more than that during this year’s auction. All of the money raised from the auction will go to the Westbrook Chamber of Commerce to help pay for Together Days.
