In 1881, St. Hyacinth Parish purchased land on Walker Street from the Westbrook Manufacturing Company. At the time, there was a small cemetery on this site and the bodies were moved in 1882 to land acquired by St. Hyacinth Church on Stroudwater Street (present day St. Hyacinth Cemetery). In 1883, a small wooden school was built on the Walker Street land. In 1893, the small school was moved to Reserve Street and this building was built, opening in September of 1894 and serving as a school into the 1970s. No longer a school, the building serves as a meeting place and also home to St. Hyacinth History Museum founded and maintained by Phil LaViolet.
