Area residents have been receiving calls recently from telemarketers from a company identifying themselves as Premier Movie Pass this company has also apparently gone by other names such as:
Premier Benefits
Premium Advantage
Buyers Union
Call One
Call One Unlimited
Premier One
The caller suggests that you have been selected to receive any number of valuable items such as free movie passes, valuable money saving coupons, gift certificates and even free gasoline vouchers. They have also used reputable business names such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy so as to sound legitimate. All this for a nominal handling fee of $3.95 to be paid in advance.
Then comes the hook. In order for you to receive these things you will be told you need to give them the numbers located on the bottom of your personal check. These numbers include your account number and other information that allows them to withdraw funds from your account.
Providing personal information such as account numbers, social security numbers, or any other account information to anyone who calls you can lead to significant and expensive problems. If you have been called and offered this or another similar offer, you should immediately call your bank or financial institution and tell them not to honor any transaction from the company. In addition, you should check your credit report for anything that might stand out as suspicious.
Consumers who are victimized and wish to file a complaint are strongly encouraged to contact the United States Postal Inspectors Mail Fraud division by calling 1-800-372-8347 and selecting option 3. Also, consumers should contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261.
