Scarborough kids featherball baseball ends May 23 with a parent-child whiffle ball game and barbecue. The kids have participated since late March in Monday night sessions designed to teach them the basics of throwing, catching and hitting a baseball.

Baseball rules, sportsmanship, and good nutrition are also topics the coaches have discussed with the kids. The public service project this spring is helping Camp Ketcha clean its trail system in the woods.

Seventy-eight kids ages 4 through 7 have participated in this sixth annual session put on by Scarborough Youth Sports Forum. Thank you to these sponsors for generosity that allowed us to buy hats for the kids that said “Think Big” with a photo of David beaning Goliath with a rock: Jeff Worthing CPA; Robin Carlson, State Farm; Saco and Biddeford Savings Institution; Rick Murphy of Linsco Private Ledger; Jeff Jones, Attorney at Law; Moody’s Collision Center.

The kids were great. I hope they had as much fun learning as we did watching them grow in the great (and safe!) game of featherball baseball. Now, on to the outdoor season!
