APPLICATIONS BEING TAKEN FOR ANNUAL SCARBOROUGH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT JOURNALISM AWARD NAMED AFTER PORTLAND NEWSPAPER COLUMIST HAROLD J. BOYLE; AWARD STARTED IN 1978
Applications are being taken now for the annual Scarborough High School student journalism award named after former Portland newspaper columnist, the deceased Harold J. Boyle.
Committee chair, Dan Warren, a 1975 SHS graduate, says any person at the high school or in the community may nominate any SHS senior who has shown a strong interest in, and ability for, a career in journalism. “Harold Boyle loved the news business, and he also loved the state of Maine,” Warren said.
“He believed in telling amusing, relevant and accurate stories about humans, and human nature, in and around Portland. We want to recognize that spark, if it is present in any SHS seniors this year. We want to encourage them to pursue a career in media.”
Warren and others started the award in 1978. For information, or to nominate a student, contact Warren at 883 4167 or by e mail at: dwarren@jwlawfirm.com.
