A 25-year-old Cape Elizabeth man has been issued a summons by the Portland Police Department for providing alcohol to minors.
If convicted, Zach Strout could face up to 364 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.
The alcohol was consumed at a dance at Deering High School April 8 that surprised local parents and officials because of the number of intoxicated students. The Portland police investigated how the alcohol was purchased.
A dozen students were suspended from school for being intoxicated at the dance; 13 were given civil citations for possession of alcohol by consumption, which carries with it a $200 to $400 fine.
Three male juveniles were also summoned for providing alcohol, but police said they did not know what towns they were from or how they gained access to alcohol.
One female juvenile was also summoned for providing a place to drink. These charges are also class D misdemeanors and carry a penalty of up to 364 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.
