Memorial Day Parade Chairman Jim Cox announces plans for Memorial Day observances within the Town of Cape Elizabeth:

“Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 30, 2005. This year, with the country still at war, it is especially important that we honor the men and women who are fighting in Iraq and other places around the world, as well as those veterans who have served in prior wars.

We still have several individuals from here in Cape Elizabeth who are serving both at home and overseas. We encourage anyone who has a family member serving in the armed services to notify Jim Cox (799-5910) so they can be recognized.”

The parade will begin at the intersection of Fowler Road and Route 77. Participants are asked to line up between 8:15 and 8:30 a.m. The parade begins at 9 a.m. The parade route continues from the Fowler Road/Route 77 intersection through the town center, continuing to the War Veterans Memorial on Scott Dyer Road. A brief ceremony and laying of the wreath will be held at the monument.

Following the ceremony, residents and guests are invited to an Open House at the Town Center Fire Station.

Please join us in showing support of our troops. Groups interested in marching are encouraged to do so.

In the event of inclement weather, a ceremony and laying of the wreath will be held at the Cape Elizabeth High School cafeteria. Parking for the cafeteria is to the back of the high school. An announcement of the change will be available on the town’s Web site, www.capeelizabeth.com, between 7 and 7:30 a.m.
