A very interesting guest will be visiting and preaching to us this coming Sunday (4/24/05) at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Scarborough. Services at the church, located at 350 U. S. Route 1, begin at 9 a.m. this Sunday. Father Noe Bernier, Archdeacon of Northern Haiti (our companion Diocese), will be with us to preach, share – and partake of Coffee Hour. A separate collection will be taken in support of his ministries in Haiti. Fr. Bernier will be staying with St. Nicholas Saturday parishoners Saturday night and moving on to visit at St. Alban’s Church in Cape Elizabeth later in the day Sunday. This will bring to an end his ten-day visit in Maine arranged by the Episcopal Diocese of Maine.

Maine and Haiti are companion dioceses and as such we work to make contact with, learn more about, and provide assistance to our friends. Haiti has suffered from political, social and economic strike throughout most of its history as an independent nation sharing a Carribean island with the Dominican Republic. The result is for Haitians a per capita income consistently at the bottom of the list of western hemisphere nations. This will be opprotunity to learn firsthand more about this country and its people living so close to our southern borders…, just east of Cuba.

St. Nicholas Episcopal Church is located at 350 US Rt.1, Scarborough. Sunday Service starts at 9:00 a.m. …, Nursery and church school is also available at that time. Coffee Hour is immediately following.
